Real Life Horrible Bosses

Heinous higher-ups don't just exist in the movies. We found examples of actual people at the top of the ladder who make Jennifer Aniston's character seem not-so-bad.

"We have remote employees, so a lot of our meetings use new web conferencing software. My former boss, who by the way was totally lazy and was working from home that day, called in for the quarterly report via the software. Part of it includes a video component that allows everyone who calls in to see the others on the call. I guess my boss wasn't familiar with the functionality because a few minutes into the meeting he apparently started jerking off. I was in the office so I didn't see it, but the meeting ended super abruptly and the next day my boss resigned. One of my coworkers, who works remotely, said you couldn't see below the waist, but it was obvious what was going on. So it turns out he wasn't just a slacking jerk-off, but also a jerking-off slacker." —Kristina

"My old boss told me I had cankles. She was 'let go' two weeks later. #hellohumanresources" —Morgan

"I used to be a junior manager at my company, where I oversaw five employees. The guy above me managed me and three other junior managers. Last year he called me in to say that he'd be happy to take one of the people under me off my hands in order to give me more time to work on bigger projects. I thought it would be a cool way to grow at the company and get my feet wet in other areas so I happily agreed. A few days later I learned that in an attempt to cut costs, the company had decided to take away the manager title—and bonuses—from anyone who managed less than five people. My boss had known all along and—how convenient—he got to keep his title and I didn't." —Bri

"I was an office administrator at a small clinic and one day I logged on to the shared work computer that my boss occasionally used and accidentally opened his files instead of mine. It was a ton of porn. And then he got mad at me for finding the porn he had downloaded at work! Needless to say, I quit soon after." —Nicole

"My boss just told me that she's bringing crystals in for my desk to 'improve my aura'. And by the way, I work in the medical field." —Jennifer

"I had asked for my birthday off months in advance. My boss said it was fine so I made plans for that day. Then right before, he threatened to fire me if I didn't come into work!" —Lauren

"I went through all of high school and college without every experiencing mean girls. But when I started my first job out of grad school, I had my first encounter. Yes, she was my boss. The woman went out of her way to mentor all the other women in the office, but totally ignored me. And the cherry on top of the bitch cake was when she organized a holiday lunch and invited everyone who worked under her—except for me! When she walked by my cube later she said with a sick, faux sweet smile, 'I can not believe I left you off the email invite!' Then she turned and smugly flounced back to her office." —Lenora

"I had a manager who told me I was so pale, I should kill myself. Yep." —Kerry

"A former boss threatened to fire me because I caught him at the office making out with someone other his wife." —Kattie

"I'm a nanny in Texas, and one day last summer, the lady I worked asked me not to wear shorts or tank tops. It was 105 degrees almost every day so I asked why. She said that since she was a 'newly remarried woman', she was worried her husband's eyes might wander. Seriously, she expected me to wear jeans in Texas in the summer!" —Kelly

"I once had a boss who used to check my phone to see how many calls I missed. One time she actually attempted to write me up because I didn't return a call...from someone who hadn't even left a message." —Mel

"My manager once told me to take two days off because I was throwing up non-stop. She said she'd have my shifts covered, no problem. Then she called me a day later, screaming at me about not being there. When I reminded her what she'd said, she told me she was disappointed in me for thinking I could get away with this and how I'd ruined her whole week. Crazy bitch." —Megan
